What Makes a Book Worth Rereading?

What Makes a Book Worth Rereading?

I’m not much for rereading novels. Generally speaking, once I’ve read it, I’m done. Even if I loved the book and will sing its praises for years to come, I will probably never pick it up again. This contrasts greatly with my sister who almost never reads new books but goes back and rereads her favorites. Me, I’m always looking ahead to the next one on my (very) long to-read list. There are exceptions. Pride & Prejudice and Persuasion are two books I’ve read at least parts of more times than I can count. But those two are old favorites. […]

Bedtime Stories to Books: An Interview With YA Author J.A. Paul

Bedtime Stories to Books: An Interview With YA Author J.A. Paul

After following fellow author J.A. Paul on Twitter, I learned about his debut YA fantasy novel Gladius and the Bartlett Trial (which I’m currently reading). So I’ve asked him a few questions and found out how his sons influenced this action-adventure quest, what he loves most about writing, and what we can expect to see from this budding author in the future! We also have a special sneak peek at Gladius waiting for you after the interview. Read on!   When did you start ‘putting words to paper’ as your bio says? What motivated you to do so? I used […]

10 Characters I Wish Would Come to Life

Sometimes I’m reading and just wish certain characters would literally jump off the page and into real life. So today I’m introducing 10 of my favorites in that category. In some cases I’ve cheated and counted a duo as one but that’s because I couldn’t possibly bring one to life without the other.   Mr. Darcy & Elizabeth. This one was a no-brainer and there’s no way I can separate them. Mary & James from The Agency series. I don’t know that either of them would qualify as being fun to have around, but I love their interaction and […]

Bookends

Bookends

So right now I am consumed with completing the last revisions of The Jester’s Apprentice. I’m planning to do a review copy giveaway at the beginning of July so I’m hustling to get finished! Sleep is optional right now and my head is spinning with all the things still left to do. To keep my sanity in tact and spare you from the drivel I’m pretty sure would come out of me today, I’m posting some photos of cool bookends I discovered instead. 🙂       The Mosman Library in Australia had an entire exhibit devoted to bookends! You […]

Imogen Interviews Philippa

I’ve posted character interviews before so that’s nothing new. But I thought recently, ‘What if one character interviewed another? That would be interesting!’ So that’s exactly what’s happening today. Imogen Bell, heroine of Dead Locked, traveled back in time over 800 years and across the Atlantic to have a chat with Philippa, heroine of my forthcoming novel, The Jester’s Apprentice. Let’s look in and see what she had to say! Imogen: This is so exciting! I’m in England! And it’s 1197! What’s that smell? Philippa: Grazing animals more than likely. You don’t have them in 2011? Imogen: Somewhere, I’m sure. […]

What Are You Reading This Summer?

What Are You Reading This Summer?

I don’t know what it is about summer, but it makes me want to read. Winter does not have that effect on me, which boggles my mind. But all I want to do in summer is get a few good books, plop down on a beach, and get to it. And I generally reach for the meatier books too; classics like The Mysteries of Udolpho by Ann Radcliffe and The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. Huge books that require more time and mental energy. This year I’m taking a different track. I’m reading the YA fantasy Gladius and the Bartlett Trial […]
